legal assistance

For almost 10 years, solicitors from Catherine Henry Lawyers have been volunteering their time to provide free legal assistance for those living with cancer.

Cancer Council’s Pro Bono Program offers a referral service for legal matters faced by those living with cancer. This includes wills and powers of attorney, access to superannuation, mortgage hardship and other consumer credit problems, insurance, employment and other matters.

Our solicitors are on a volunteer list for the Newcastle and Hunter Region to help people affected by cancer to access legal assistance where they would be otherwise unable to do so due to cost, illness or other barriers.

We’ve been fortunate enough to help many local people with their family law, wills and estates, or medical law issues via this vital service.

Principal, Catherine Henry believes in the importance of being an active contributor to the local community and the great work of Cancer Council.

“I well know, both from personal and professional experience, how a cancer diagnosis can turn a person’s life upside down and that the need for assistance can be overwhelming. Making a meaningful contribution to those dealing with cancer is important to us,” said Catherine.

On 29 May, staff at Catherine Henry Lawyers also took part in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds for cancer research and patient care in Australia.
