About Margot

Margot’s unique breadth of legal experience makes her an asset to the clients of our Institutional Abuse practice.

She has returned to legal practice with a law firm after working in NSW for 15 years as a magistrate and 10 years as a barrister.

Catherine Henry Lawyers is a very comfortable professional fit for Margot because of a shared commitment to social justice as well as access to justice. This ethos is one of the reasons she now works to gain redress, justice and recognition for clients who have experienced institutional abuse.

“Without access to the law, citizens do not have rights – they only have privileges, which money can buy. The quality of our society is measured by how it treats its most vulnerable citizens.”

Margot strives to offer a premium quality service to clients by having a personal commitment to her matters, a high energy approach to litigation, flexibility, and very detailed case preparation and planning.

“Clients must be actively involved at all stages, kept fully informed, and actively engaged in all decisions made during their matter.”

Her presiding on the NSW Local Court Bench in NSW included the Children’s Court and General Division of the Local Court.

Margot has a strong interest and experience in academic law and its role in equipping lawyers to make a difference for clients, communities and society. She has lectured in law at the Australian National University, University of East London, University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, University of Wollongong (UOW) and on the Barristers and Solicitors Admissions Board Program. At UOW she was the Faculty of Law Sub Dean. She currently lectures at Western Sydney University in the field of evidence.

She excelled in her studies, gaining a Bachelor of Law with First Class Honours from Macquarie University and a Master of Laws from the prestigious Yale Law School in the United States.

At age 12, she was the only female competitor in the Murwillumbah Rodeo. She did not get thrown off in the Poddy Calf ride. A dog lover and dog mum, she fits right in at our pet-friendly firm.
