Professional Misconduct

This information sheet outlines the options available to those who wish to take legal action or make a complaint against banned cosmetic surgeon Dr Leslie Blackstock. Our firm has successfully helped close to 200 patients gain compensation for negligent or substandard treatment from Dr. Blackstock, and we remain committed to continuing to represent numerous others as they progress toward resolution.

If you have suffered an injury or experienced poor or inappropriate care from Dr. Blackstock, we urge you to make an appointment with one of our health lawyers. Our female lawyers are based in regional NSW and are experts in legal cases arising from failed cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery. Our team can handle your case efficiently, confidentially and with sensitivity and empathy. You should also make an appointment with your GP to investigate the need for psychological treatment resulting from your injuries and treatment.

Time limits apply to personal injury cases in NSW – three years from the date of what is known legally as ‘discoverability’. This does not necessarily mean three years from the date you received the treatment, but it is important that you get legal advice promptly.

About Dr. Leslie Blackstock

The NSW Medical Council de-registered Dr Blackstock in October 2020. Dr Blackstock is not a specialist surgeon despite describing himself on his website as a plastic surgeon with suitable skill and expertise in breast augmentation surgery.

Allegations and complaints against Dr Blackstock include procedures being performed without an anaesthetist; asking patients while sedated if they are satisfied with the appearance of their breasts, no examination or assessment pre-procedure, surgery having to be redone multiple times, and incompetently managing complications from his surgery.

You are not alone

Hundreds of women have made allegations about inappropriate care. Another qualified plastic surgeon, Dr. Kumar, told the media that his practice has seen 30 to 40 women who have had complications that are a direct result of surgery performed on them by Dr. Blackstock. You can watch the programme about Dr. Blackstock here

Our firm’s Principal, Catherine Henry, was interviewed for A Current Affair on Dr Blackstock’s inappropriate practices. You can watch the segment here.

Seeking compensation

There are different legal options available to aggrieved patients of Dr. Blackstock.

  1. Medical negligence

Patients may be able to recover compensation if evidence from an independent plastic surgeon asserts that Dr Blackstock’s treatment fell below an acceptable standard of care resulting in a physical and/or psychological injury.

  1. Make a complaint to HCCC

You can also lodge a complaint about Dr Blackstock with the Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC). Our team can assist you with making a complaint.
